How to choose the right size surfboard?
This page is designed to help you determine what is the best surfboard for you and your style of surfing. The three elements of choosing the right board for you are simple: design, volume and dimensions (DVD).
Before getting a custom board, ask yourself some questions…
Design:
- How do you want your board to perform?
- What conditions or environment do you need your board to perform in?
- What about the size of surf and the shape of that surf?
Volume:
- How much volume do you want? Volume is the float factor or how much foam the board has in it minus the weight of the board.
- The volume of the board – which includes not only the amount of foam used but its design and construction determines how much float it has. This why your board’s design is important.
- Every surfer has a range of volume (in liters) that they like and feel the most comfortable using. What is your volume range?
Dimensions:
- The board length is the first dimension most surfers think about. What length do you want your board to be?
- What about your board width?
- What is the height, weight and skill level of the surfer?
